As promised, here is the list I will be using for The Black, White & Read Book Challenge. I will be reviewing each episode prior to beginning the books associated with it... to ensure accuracy (and to be honest, it gives me another reason to spend many hours watching Gilmore girls... not like I've ever NEEDED a reason).
If you would like to join me in this adventure, I'd love to hear other's experiences! All you need to do is take a left at Luke's and make a stop at The Black, White & Read Bookstore (the deserving namesake of this blog) and start filling your arms!
Now it's time to turn off the DVD player, give Rory and Lorelai a break and get to reading! Wish me luck!
You jump I jump, Jack! (that's Gilmore for "See the list after the jump!")

Wow! They're are so many books on here I want to read. And I had no idea the list would be so long. Congrats on doing this, that sounds weird. Whatever. I just love it. You're an original. Even though you say it's not your idea, well, you made it your own and I love you, haha. Oh and I joined a blogging community to post here, my first. This is fun though.
ReplyDeleteI can only guess how long it took you to compile this list! I tried watching each episode to jot down the titles, but some just went by in a big blur. I hope you won't mind if I sneak some of your titles onto my own Rory Gilmore Booklist. Its fantastic how much the show is still loved years after it went off the air.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the additional books? Are these one viewed only and not mentioned? Great list!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel! The additional books are, for the most part, references to the movie version of a book. Technically they're speaking of the movie, not the book... But those are just kind of addendum to the list. I review each episode before I begin it, and then I update the list based on my opinion as to whether or not the reference was legit. I found this list on the Internet as a starting point and update it as I go along.
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect! Now, if there was only a comprehensive list of the music mentioned....but I feel like that would be a Herculean task!
ReplyDeleteI might be wrong about this, but I thought that "Deenie" was written by Judy Blume, not Beverly Cleary. And "the gospel according to Judy Blume" is just Anna describing "Deenie;" it's not the title of a book. This website is awesome by the way.. I stumbled upon it accidentally while doing homework for my literature class (and watching Gilmore Girls actually)but now it's on my favorites tab. Thanks for going through the trouble of creating this list!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Sara! Thanks for your wonderful compliments.
DeleteAs for the points you made, you are most likely correct. I got this list off the web and I reevaluate each episode's list right before I start it. That's when I fix the sequence, add or remove any references based on their legitimacy (for example: if they're specifically referencing the movie version in the episode) and edit any inaccuracies. I'll definitely keep your points in mind when I get to that episode!
Thanks for reading! :)
Someone on Goodreads has gone through every episode and made lists. They're organized by season, though, not by episode. But I think watching each episode as you go is probably more fun!
Deletelove your blog. do u think u could upload ur collection of gilmore approved ebooks here? its so hard to find most of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching Season 7's 'I'd Rather be in Philadelphia" right now... Emily mentions Cormac McCarthy--add him to your list! :)

ReplyDeletein The Breakup, Pt. 2 (1.17) rory is in her room, preparing to go to the party, and she put a book in her bag.
ReplyDeleteat the party she pulls out of her bag that book and tries to read it. although looking at the covers you can tell that they are two diferent books. does anyone knows which is which?
here a pic of those moments: http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r606/elArqui22/1x17_zps0278da44.jpg
In season 1 episode 17, the book Rory puts in her bag is The Art of Eating by M.F.K. Fisher, but I'm not sure which book she is reading at the party.
DeleteI was looking through your archives to find your list (seriously considering doing a Lori version of this project--cherry-picking the classics and selected non-fiction) and realized something: damn! You've been at this for quite a while! I'm in no way commenting on your progress; I mean that I thought you'd been around for less than a year. The more I talk, the more I feel myself digging a hole...Um, congrats on your progress. I admire your ability to push through some of these and so quickly. Wasn't it two weeks on War and Peace? Amazing! (I hope I redeemed myself, if I needed to redeem myself...)
